How are the three nights divided?

The programme has one night in the Lake Naivasha area followed by two in the Lake Nakuru area. It starts and finishes in Nairobi.

Are both the boat safari and Crescent Island walk included?

Yes. The Lake Naivasha boat safari and the guided Crescent Island wildlife walk are both included. The programme places the boat safari on day one and the island walk on day two.

What is included at Hell's Gate?

Hell's Gate National Park entry and bicycle hire are included for the cycling programme. The guide directs permitted routes, the pace and appropriate distances from wildlife.

Are large flamingo flocks guaranteed at Lake Nakuru?

No. Flamingos move between Rift Valley lakes as water and feeding conditions change. Numbers at Lake Nakuru vary, and the programme does not guarantee a large flock or any particular wildlife sighting.

Overview

This private four-day Rift Valley road safari combines the volcanic landscape of Hell’s Gate, freshwater Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru National Park. Hell’s Gate entry and bicycle hire, the Naivasha boat safari and the Crescent Island wildlife walk are included. One night in Naivasha is followed by two in the Nakuru area, with arrival-afternoon, full-day and final-morning game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park. Flamingo numbers and other wildlife sightings vary with current conditions and animal movements.

Budget, Mid-Range and Luxury accommodation options are available, with a private Land Cruiser 4×4 or Safari Minivan and guide for the travelling party. The selected services, dates and party determine the applicable rate basis; these options are not assumed to have the same price. Full Board follows the daily meal plan.

Day 01 :

Nairobi to Lake Naivasha & Hell's Gate National Park

The private road safari leaves Nairobi for Hell’s Gate National Park in the Rift Valley. The morning cycling programme explores the park’s open volcanic landscape on permitted routes, with the guide directing wildlife-viewing distances and the pace. The programme then continues to Lake Naivasha. The included afternoon boat safari explores the freshwater lake’s shoreline and papyrus habitats, looking for waterbirds and hippos from the boat. The outing returns to the Naivasha base for the overnight stay.

Day 02 :

Lake Naivasha to Lake Nakuru National Park

The morning includes the guided Crescent Island wildlife walk at Lake Naivasha. The guide follows permitted paths and explains the animals, birds and lakeside habitats encountered, maintaining appropriate wildlife-viewing distances. The programme then checks out of the Naivasha base and continues north through the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. The afternoon game drive introduces the park’s lakeshore, grassland and woodland viewing areas, with time at wildlife sightings before returning to the Nakuru base for the first of two nights.

Day 03 :

Full Day Lake Nakuru National Park

Morning and afternoon game drives provide a full day in Lake Nakuru National Park. The guide explores grassland and wooded habitats, looking for rhinos, giraffes, buffalo, antelope and the other animals present along permitted routes. Lakeshore viewing includes the waterbirds using the lake at the time of the visit; flamingo numbers vary as water and feeding conditions change. The afternoon outing explores additional wildlife areas and accessible elevated viewpoints before returning to the same Nakuru base for the second night.

Day 04 :

Lake Nakuru to Nairobi

A final morning game drive explores Lake Nakuru National Park before departure. The guide follows current wildlife activity through the park’s permitted viewing areas, allowing time to observe the animals and birds encountered in the grassland, woodland and lakeside habitats. Following the drive, the programme returns to the Nakuru base for checkout and the private road journey to Nairobi through the Rift Valley corridor. Arrival in Nairobi completes the four-day circuit linking Hell’s Gate, Lake Naivasha, Crescent Island and Lake Nakuru.
