Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

The safari leaves Nairobi in the morning and travels north through the central highlands towards Samburu National Reserve. Cultivated highland scenery gives way to the drier acacia and riverine landscape of the northern reserve. After arrival and settling into the accommodation, the afternoon game drive explores the Ewaso Nyiro river corridor and adjoining habitats. The guide introduces the dry-country wildlife associated with Samburu, with time to observe animal behaviour, identify birds and photograph the landscape at the encounters along the route. The drive returns to the accommodation for the first of two Samburu overnight stays.

Full Day Samburu Game Drives and Optional Village Visit

Morning and afternoon game drives provide a full day exploring Samburu. The guide follows reserve tracks through the riverine woodland and surrounding semi-arid country, looking for the distinctive species associated with the area and allowing time to observe wildlife behaviour. A Samburu village visit remains an optional, separately charged activity. When selected, the community visit is scheduled around game viewing, with its content following the arrangement agreed with the hosts. It occupies part of the day rather than adding another full programme alongside the drives. The party returns to the same accommodation for the second Samburu night.

Day 03 :

Samburu to Nyahururu and Nakuru Transit

A final morning game drive provides the last Samburu wildlife-viewing session before the party leaves the reserve. The road journey then continues through the central highlands to Nyahururu for the included Thomson’s Falls stop. The waterfall viewpoint provides a change from the reserve’s riverine and dry-country habitats before the onward journey to the Nakuru area. Arrival is followed by the transit overnight near Lake Nakuru. An optional walk within the accommodation’s designated visitor grounds remains separate from the driving programme and follows the property’s arrangements. A Lake Nakuru National Park game drive is not scheduled on this day.

The party leaves the Nakuru-area accommodation and continues by road towards the Maasai Mara. The approach passes through highland and pastoral country before opening into the reserve’s grassland landscape. The guide pauses at wildlife encounters to provide time for observation and photography, with the animals and birds encountered shaping the individual stops. This arrival-day session establishes the safari setting before the full exploration day that follows. The party returns to the accommodation for the first of two Mara overnight stays.

The final morning centres on checkout and the private road journey from the Maasai Mara to Nairobi. A separate morning game drive is not scheduled on this departure day. The agreed Nairobi hotel or airport drop-off completes the six-day programme after two Samburu nights, the Nakuru-area transit night and two Mara nights. No Nairobi attraction visit forms part of this return stage.
