4-Day Mara Family Safari – Kid-Friendly Big Five Adventure

4 Days 3 Nights

Overview

A Mara family safari designed for children transforms the legendary Maasai Mara into an unforgettable classroom without walls. This 4-day adventure is tailored for families with younger children, featuring kid-friendly game drives with shorter morning sessions, educational bush activities at the lodge, and a pace that keeps little ones engaged without overwhelming them. Your family-experienced guide turns every wildlife sighting into a teaching moment, helping children identify animals, learn tracking skills, and understand the Mara’s incredible ecosystem. With three nights at a family-friendly lodge that offers swimming pools and spacious family rooms, this Mara family safari balances thrilling Big Five encounters with the comfort and flexibility that travelling with children requires. The low minimum age of four years makes this one of the most accessible family safari options in Kenya. The Maasai Mara is an ideal destination for families because its open grasslands provide exceptional visibility, meaning even the youngest children can spot animals from the vehicle without needing to sit still for long periods. Lion prides, elephant families with calves, baby zebras, and playful warthogs create moments of pure wonder for children of all ages. Your guide adapts the game drive experience to your family’s energy levels, with the option to return to the lodge early if younger ones need a break, or to extend drives when an exciting sighting holds everyone’s attention. Between drives, the lodge provides activities such as junior ranger programmes, nature walks within the compound, and wildlife colouring and tracking sheets that keep children engaged while parents enjoy a well-earned rest. This safari creates the kind of shared family memories that children talk about for years.

Highly recommend Kelvin of Rustic Nature Tours. We saw his great reviews on Facebook. We wanted to be in a small group and to visit the elephants orphanage and giraffe santiary in Nairobi. Kevin delivered all this and took us to a wonderful community project making beautiful beads. We highly recommend Kelvin and his professionalism.

We wanted to be in a small group and wanted to do a half day tour to experience the amazing elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park and the giraffes sanctuary. We also didn’t want to have to go out too early having only just arrived. Kelvin of ‘Rustic Nature Tours’ delivered this all perfectly for us. A she took us to a community project supporting local women with making beautiful beads which was wonderful. He was very knowledgable and interesting and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and this company. They also do all sorts of Safaris so we will contact him again when we return. PS please note separate to any tour booking the guest must pay a park fee per person and it’s best to do this in advance via the National park website

Found Rustic tours via a recommendation on Facebook as I needed a Nairobi layover tour guide. Contacted Kelvin and we agreed quickly on what to do and see. He picked us up on airport in the morning in his crazy safari car and we saw downtown, giraffes and we did the Nairobi safari. Got to day that I laughed a lot with Kelvin as he is a great person! He did everything he could so we could see as much as possible in our short time window. See you again my friend!

Had a long layover and booked this last minute. So glad I did! Nicole kept our bags in the car and took us back to the airport after the drive. What a drive! Saw a family of rhinos and a pride of lions. Nicole also recommended a Kenyan cuisine restaurant when we asked. She was very knowledgeable, funny, and we really enjoyed our time with her and the tour. Recommend to everyone

What a fantastic day tour to Nairobi National Park, Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, and a surprise garden lunch. Our guide, Calvin, a top notch birder and guide paced the day perfectly and provided us with an excellent experience! We have travelled to Kenya multiple times, but our private tour with Rustic Nature Tours and Calvin in particular ranks as a highlight among our experiences.

The sights were once in a lifetime - elephant orphanage and giraffe sanctuary worth a trip to Nairobi. Kelvin, our guide, was great - picked us up on time, pointed out animals on the way, was full of information. Will refer any friends visiting Nairobi his way!
