6-Day Adventure Safari – Hell’s Gate Nakuru Naivasha & Mara

The safari travels from Nairobi to the Lake Naivasha area for an introductory afternoon walk in Hell’s Gate National Park. The walk explores the open valley and its volcanic landscape, with the guide interpreting rock formations and the wildlife encountered along the route. This is an open-country park activity, with no descent into the gorge. The lakeside stay begins after the outing, with cycling and the included Naivasha water-and-island activities continuing the programme.

A guided cycling excursion follows Hell’s Gate’s authorised park roads through the open valley beneath the cliffs and rock formations. The programme excludes the gorge and any canyon-floor walk. The day also includes a Lake Naivasha boat ride, observing hippos from the vessel and looking for birds around the papyrus and shoreline. A guided Crescent Island walk completes the Naivasha activity programme, adding time among the sanctuary’s free-ranging plains animals.

The route continues to Lake Nakuru National Park for morning and afternoon wildlife drives. The programme explores lake margins, grassland and acacia woodland, with the guide looking for rhinos, giraffes and other wildlife. Birdwatching around the alkaline lake provides another focus, while viewpoints give a wider perspective on the landscape. Flamingo numbers change naturally, so the visit does not depend on a particular flock being present.

The safari moves from Lake Nakuru to the Maasai Mara. An afternoon game drive explores the reserve’s grasslands and wildlife corridors, with the guide looking for grazing herds and predators. The outing follows current animal activity and allows time for observation and photography at sightings. This first drive introduces the Mara before a full day of exploration in the reserve.

The route leaves the reserve area and continues through the Mara hills and Rift Valley towards the capital, completing the combination of Naivasha activities, Nakuru’s lake habitats and Mara wildlife viewing. The safari ends at the arranged Nairobi drop-off point.
