Overview

This private four-day road safari links the Maasai Mara National Reserve and Lake Nakuru National Park, starting and finishing in Nairobi. Two nights in the Mara provide an arrival-afternoon drive and a full middle day with morning and afternoon drives. One night at Nakuru allows an afternoon drive after the transfer and an early drive before the final breakfast and Nairobi return.

Your vehicle and safari guide are reserved for your party. Choose a Land Cruiser 4×4 or Safari Minivan and Budget, Mid-Range or Luxury accommodation. The selected properties, rooms, vehicle, dates and party size determine the quotation; these options do not establish one price for every configuration. Nine meals, entry fees for both parks’ scheduled programme and drinking water during game drives are included.

Viewing follows authorised routes and current access conditions. Lake Nakuru offers lake, woodland and grassland habitats and protects black and white rhinos. Flamingo numbers vary with water and food conditions, and neither pink flocks nor particular wildlife encounters are guaranteed. A Maasai village visit and a Mara balloon safari remain optional extras.

Day 01 :

Nairobi to Maasai Mara

The safari leaves Nairobi in the morning and travels through the Great Rift Valley and Narok to the Maasai Mara. The private vehicle continues to the Mara base for check-in before the afternoon wildlife outing. This first stage introduces the change from the Rift Valley journey to the reserve’s open grasslands.

The afternoon game drive explores authorised reserve routes with your safari guide. Viewing stops follow the animals encountered along the circuit, allowing time to observe their behaviour and photograph the surrounding landscape. The drive ends back at the Mara base for the first night of the safari.

Day 02 :

Full Day Maasai Mara Game Drives

Morning and afternoon game drives provide a full day of exploration in the Maasai Mara. The morning outing follows authorised routes across the grasslands and riverine areas, with viewing stops chosen by the guide as wildlife is encountered. Time back at the Mara base separates the two outings.

The afternoon drive returns to the reserve for a further viewing circuit. The guide follows the day’s wildlife movements rather than a fixed list of sightings, combining time at animal encounters with an appreciation of the wider savannah landscape. The programme returns to the same Mara base for a second night.

Day 03 :

Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru

The party leaves the Maasai Mara and travels through Narok and the Rift Valley towards Lake Nakuru. The day changes the focus from the Mara’s open plains to Lake Nakuru National Park, where the scheduled afternoon game drive explores the park’s woodland, grassland and lakeside viewing areas.

Your guide follows accessible park circuits, stopping for wildlife and bird watching as opportunities arise. The outing introduces the lake landscape without depending on a particular flamingo flock or animal encounter. The day finishes at the Nakuru base for the safari’s next overnight stop.

Day 04 :

Lake Nakuru to Nairobi

An early morning game drive completes the Lake Nakuru wildlife programme. The guide follows the park’s accessible circuits for another look at its woodland, grassland and lake habitats, with stops for wildlife and bird watching.

The party returns to the Nakuru base, checks out and leaves for Nairobi in the private vehicle. This final road stage brings the four-day safari back to its starting city after two nights in the Mara and one at Nakuru.

What is the route and overnight allocation?

This four-day road safari starts and finishes in Nairobi, with two nights in the Maasai Mara and one night at Lake Nakuru. The route is Nairobi–Maasai Mara–Lake Nakuru–Nairobi.

Which game drives are included?

Day one includes an afternoon Mara drive. Day two includes morning and afternoon Mara drives. Day three has no separate Mara morning drive and includes the transfer and an afternoon Lake Nakuru drive. Day four includes an early Nakuru drive before breakfast and the Nairobi return. Access, weather and reserve operating hours govern the viewing circuits.

Are both parks’ fees and meals included?

The scheduled Maasai Mara National Reserve and Lake Nakuru National Park entry fees are included. Meals are lunch and dinner on day one; breakfast, lunch and dinner on days two and three; and breakfast on day four. Drinking water during game drives is included. Day-four lunch, alcoholic and premium beverages, and optional activities are excluded.

Are flamingos, rhinos or Big Five sightings guaranteed?

No. Lake Nakuru protects black and white rhinos, but animal movements and viewing conditions affect encounters. Flamingo numbers vary as lake water and food conditions change. Neither a large pink flock nor a particular wildlife sighting or migration river crossing is guaranteed.

How long are the road transfers?

Journey times depend on the selected accommodation and entry routes, road conditions, traffic and stops. The itinerary includes the Nairobi–Mara, Mara–Nakuru and Nakuru–Nairobi road stages. It does not guarantee a fixed two-hour Nakuru return or an early-afternoon Nairobi arrival. Onward airport connections require an agreed timing buffer.

Is a Maasai village visit included?

No. A Maasai village visit is optional and charged separately. The hot-air balloon safari is also excluded from the scheduled programme and charged separately if arranged.
