3-Day Meru and Mount Kenya Safari – Born Free Country and Alpine Views

3 Days 2 Nights

Overview

A Meru and Mount Kenya safari takes you deep into Kenya’s least-visited and most intriguing wilderness, a world of lush riverine forests, crystal-clear streams, and dramatic equatorial mountain scenery that few safari travellers ever discover. Meru National Park, made famous by Joy and George Adamson’s work with Elsa the lioness and their landmark book Born Free, is one of Kenya’s most biodiverse national parks, covering over 870 square kilometres of varied terrain from the open savannah of the lower Tana River watershed to the dense highland forest merging with Mount Kenya’s slopes. The park hosts all of Kenya’s Big Five along with an extraordinary array of smaller mammals, reptiles, and over 350 bird species, but receives a fraction of the tourist numbers of the Maasai Mara, creating an exclusive and intimate safari atmosphere. Combining Meru with the spectacle of Mount Kenya transforms this into a truly multi-dimensional safari experience. Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest peak at 5,199 metres, dominates the skyline from the park with its dramatic glaciated peaks and equatorial snowfields visible on clear mornings. The mountain’s forested slopes support elephants, buffalos, colobus monkeys, and a spectacular array of highland birds. The scenic drive through Mount Kenya National Park’s lower forest zone on the return journey offers additional wildlife sightings and some of Kenya’s most breathtaking alpine scenery. This Meru and Mount Kenya safari is the perfect choice for discerning travellers seeking Kenya’s wilder, less-trodden paths.

Highly recommend Kelvin of Rustic Nature Tours. We saw his great reviews on Facebook. We wanted to be in a small group and to visit the elephants orphanage and giraffe santiary in Nairobi. Kevin delivered all this and took us to a wonderful community project making beautiful beads. We highly recommend Kelvin and his professionalism.

We wanted to be in a small group and wanted to do a half day tour to experience the amazing elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park and the giraffes sanctuary. We also didn’t want to have to go out too early having only just arrived. Kelvin of ‘Rustic Nature Tours’ delivered this all perfectly for us. A she took us to a community project supporting local women with making beautiful beads which was wonderful. He was very knowledgable and interesting and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and this company. They also do all sorts of Safaris so we will contact him again when we return. PS please note separate to any tour booking the guest must pay a park fee per person and it’s best to do this in advance via the National park website

Found Rustic tours via a recommendation on Facebook as I needed a Nairobi layover tour guide. Contacted Kelvin and we agreed quickly on what to do and see. He picked us up on airport in the morning in his crazy safari car and we saw downtown, giraffes and we did the Nairobi safari. Got to day that I laughed a lot with Kelvin as he is a great person! He did everything he could so we could see as much as possible in our short time window. See you again my friend!

Had a long layover and booked this last minute. So glad I did! Nicole kept our bags in the car and took us back to the airport after the drive. What a drive! Saw a family of rhinos and a pride of lions. Nicole also recommended a Kenyan cuisine restaurant when we asked. She was very knowledgeable, funny, and we really enjoyed our time with her and the tour. Recommend to everyone

What a fantastic day tour to Nairobi National Park, Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, and a surprise garden lunch. Our guide, Calvin, a top notch birder and guide paced the day perfectly and provided us with an excellent experience! We have travelled to Kenya multiple times, but our private tour with Rustic Nature Tours and Calvin in particular ranks as a highlight among our experiences.

The sights were once in a lifetime - elephant orphanage and giraffe sanctuary worth a trip to Nairobi. Kelvin, our guide, was great - picked us up on time, pointed out animals on the way, was full of information. Will refer any friends visiting Nairobi his way!
