5 Day Private Maasai Mara Migration Safari

Your party leaves Nairobi for the Maasai Mara, travelling through the Great Rift Valley and Narok. An arrival-afternoon game drive introduces the reserve’s open plains and resident wildlife when arrival and reserve entry allow. Your guide searches accessible viewing areas and gives time to watch animals encountered along the route. The first outing establishes the Mara setting before three full wildlife days focused on current animal movements and behaviour.

The first full Mara day follows current wildlife movements across suitable viewing areas. Your guide looks for the herds and other animals present during your visit, giving time to observe grazing, movement and interactions rather than treating migration as a fixed spectacle. The day’s game viewing also includes predators and other resident wildlife encountered along the route. The programme provides an extended opportunity to explore the reserve as the safari moves beyond the arrival outing.

The second full wildlife day focuses on animal behaviour and predators. Your guide searches suitable grassland, woodland edges and riverine habitats, allowing time for patient observation when lions, leopards, cheetahs or other animals are encountered. The programme builds on the previous outings and the wildlife activity currently taking place in the Mara. Predators and hunts are not guaranteed, and the experience includes the wider wildlife and habitats supporting the reserve’s food chains.

The third full Mara day provides further game viewing, with river areas explored when they form a practical part of the day’s route. Your guide follows current herd movements and other wildlife activity, allowing time to watch animals encountered around the plains and river habitats. Hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds may form part of the river viewing. A migration crossing depends on the animals’ movements and is not a scheduled or guaranteed event.

After four Mara nights, your party checks out for the private return journey to Nairobi. The route passes through Narok and the Great Rift Valley, completing the circuit through the landscapes introduced on the outward journey. No departure-morning game drive is included in the five-day programme. The safari ends with the agreed Nairobi drop-off.
