Your Tsavo Diani safari begins with an early morning departure from your Nairobi hotel, heading south on the Mombasa Highway toward Tsavo West National Park. The drive takes approximately four hours, passing through the agricultural highlands of Machakos before the vegetation shifts to the dry acacia scrub characteristic of the Tsavo ecosystem. Upon entering the park through Mtito Andei Gate, your guide immediately begins a game drive through the rugged volcanic landscape. The road south from Tsavo to the coast passes through the Taita Hills and descends through the coastal hinterland, where baobab trees and cashew plantations line the road and the humidity rises as you approach the Indian Ocean. After approximately three hours on the road, you cross the Likoni Ferry to the south coast and arrive at Diani Beach, where your beachfront hotel awaits. Spend the afternoon settling in, taking your first barefoot walk on the powdery white sand, and watching colourful kites drift above the lagoon. Diani’s coral reef lies just offshore, and a snorkelling excursion in the afternoon or a glass-bottomed boat trip reveals a vibrant underwater world of parrotfish, angelfish, and sea turtles.
