3-Day Private Samburu Wildlife Safari

The safari leaves Nairobi in the morning and travels north by private road transport to Samburu National Reserve. The arrival-afternoon game drive introduces the reserve’s dry-country landscape and the habitats around the Ewaso Nyiro River. The guide searches the open country and riverine vegetation for the wildlife present, explaining how the river supports the surrounding ecosystem. The outing gives the party its first opportunity to observe Samburu’s northern species before returning to the safari base for the first of two nights.

Morning and afternoon private game drives explore Samburu National Reserve. The guide works between the open scrubland and the Ewaso Nyiro’s riverine habitats, choosing routes for the current viewing opportunities. The search includes Samburu’s Special Five: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. These are wildlife viewing interests rather than guaranteed sightings or species found only in this reserve. Time between the drives provides a rest at the safari base before the afternoon outing and second overnight stay.

A final morning game drive returns to Samburu’s wildlife viewing areas before departure. The guide uses this last outing to build on the previous day’s observations and look for further activity along the reserve’s permitted routes. The drive then returns to the safari base for checkout. The private road journey south completes the return to Nairobi, where the safari ends at the agreed drop-off point after two nights in Samburu.
