Overview

This private Rift Valley safari combines guided cycling in Hell’s Gate National Park with a Lake Naivasha boat safari and the included guided Crescent Island walk. Cycling follows authorised park tracks through the open valley landscape, while the boat and walking outings explore different wildlife habitats around the lake.

The programme starts and finishes in Nairobi. Budget, Mid-Range and Luxury accommodation options are available, with a private Land Cruiser 4×4 or Safari Minivan for the road journeys. Two days and one night combine guided cycling in Hell's Gate National Park, an included Lake Naivasha boat safari and a guided Crescent Island walk. The private road journey starts and finishes in Nairobi, with cycling and the lake outing on day one, followed by the island walk and return on day two.

Day 01 :

Nairobi to Hell's Gate & Lake Naivasha

The private road journey leaves Nairobi for Hell’s Gate National Park in the Rift Valley. The guide introduces the bicycles and the authorised riding route before the party sets out through the park’s open valley and volcanic scenery. Stops along the way provide time to observe the animals and landscape encountered, following the guide’s instructions around wildlife. The programme then continues to Lake Naivasha for the included afternoon boat safari, exploring shoreline habitats and looking for hippos and waterbirds before returning to the Naivasha base.

Day 02 :

Crescent Island Walk & Return to Nairobi

The morning programme includes the guided Crescent Island walk. The route explores the sanctuary’s grassland and acacia woodland, with the guide explaining the wildlife encountered and directing how the party moves through the viewing areas. Time on foot offers a different perspective from the previous day’s boat and bicycle outings. Following the island visit, the programme returns to the mainland for checkout and the private road journey back to Nairobi, completing the two-day active Rift Valley safari.

Can I really cycle among wild animals in Hell's Gate

The guided cycling programme follows authorised park tracks. Riders need control of the bicycle on the riding surface and sufficient stamina for the agreed route. Follow the guide’s briefing and park instructions, and give wildlife space. Equipment suitability and each child’s participation must be confirmed for the reservation.

What is Crescent Island

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary at Lake Naivasha offers wildlife viewing on foot along walking trails. Its wildlife includes giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and waterbuck. Follow the sanctuary team’s instructions during your visit; the walking experience does not mean unrestricted access to animals.

Is this safari suitable for families with children

Family participation depends on each child's age and the selected accommodation and activities. Lodges, balloon flights, walks, cycling and boats can apply different rules.
