8-Day Samburu Mt Kenya Nakuru & Mara North-to-South Safari

8 Days 7 Nights

Overview

An eight-day north-to-south Kenya safari through Samburu, Mount Kenya, Lake Nakuru, and the Maasai Mara is a grand traversal of the country’s most diverse and spectacular wildlife ecosystems, following the natural contours of Kenya’s dramatic topography from the semi-arid northern frontier all the way south to the iconic Mara grasslands bordering Tanzania. The journey begins in Samburu National Reserve, where the Ewaso Nyiro River sustains a remarkable concentration of wildlife in an arid landscape of doum palms and volcanic rock, including the rare Special Five species found nowhere else in Kenya’s southern circuit. From the northern frontier the route climbs into the cool equatorial highlands to explore the forests and moorlands of Mount Kenya National Park, where colobus monkeys, giant forest buffalo, and elusive bongo antelope share one of Africa’s most dramatic mountain ecosystems. Descending to the Rift Valley floor, Lake Nakuru’s soda lake and rhino sanctuary provides a vivid contrast of flamingo-tinged waters and dense acacia forest before the route sweeps south to its grand finale in the Maasai Mara. This north-to-south Kenya safari is the most geographically ambitious road safari in the country, tracing a continuous line through ecosystems as different as desert scrub and snow-capped mountain, Rift Valley lake and open African savannah. Each day’s drive is as rewarding as the game drives themselves, with changing vegetation, evolving birdlife, and the ever-present backdrop of Kenya’s extraordinary geological and ecological heritage. Seven nights of comfortable accommodation at carefully selected lodges and camps, full-board meals prepared with fresh local ingredients, and the guidance of expert naturalists throughout ensure this ambitious safari is as seamlessly comfortable as it is wildly exciting.

Highly recommend Kelvin of Rustic Nature Tours. We saw his great reviews on Facebook. We wanted to be in a small group and to visit the elephants orphanage and giraffe santiary in Nairobi. Kevin delivered all this and took us to a wonderful community project making beautiful beads. We highly recommend Kelvin and his professionalism.

We wanted to be in a small group and wanted to do a half day tour to experience the amazing elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park and the giraffes sanctuary. We also didn’t want to have to go out too early having only just arrived. Kelvin of ‘Rustic Nature Tours’ delivered this all perfectly for us. A she took us to a community project supporting local women with making beautiful beads which was wonderful. He was very knowledgable and interesting and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and this company. They also do all sorts of Safaris so we will contact him again when we return. PS please note separate to any tour booking the guest must pay a park fee per person and it’s best to do this in advance via the National park website

Found Rustic tours via a recommendation on Facebook as I needed a Nairobi layover tour guide. Contacted Kelvin and we agreed quickly on what to do and see. He picked us up on airport in the morning in his crazy safari car and we saw downtown, giraffes and we did the Nairobi safari. Got to day that I laughed a lot with Kelvin as he is a great person! He did everything he could so we could see as much as possible in our short time window. See you again my friend!

Had a long layover and booked this last minute. So glad I did! Nicole kept our bags in the car and took us back to the airport after the drive. What a drive! Saw a family of rhinos and a pride of lions. Nicole also recommended a Kenyan cuisine restaurant when we asked. She was very knowledgeable, funny, and we really enjoyed our time with her and the tour. Recommend to everyone

What a fantastic day tour to Nairobi National Park, Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, and a surprise garden lunch. Our guide, Calvin, a top notch birder and guide paced the day perfectly and provided us with an excellent experience! We have travelled to Kenya multiple times, but our private tour with Rustic Nature Tours and Calvin in particular ranks as a highlight among our experiences.

The sights were once in a lifetime - elephant orphanage and giraffe sanctuary worth a trip to Nairobi. Kelvin, our guide, was great - picked us up on time, pointed out animals on the way, was full of information. Will refer any friends visiting Nairobi his way!
