Curated Kenya Safari Circuits
From the Mara to the Coast: 10 Expertly Designed Routes
1. The Mara Express
The ultimate short safari for big cat lovers. This high-intensity circuit bypasses other parks to focus entirely on the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife: the Masai Mara. Perfect for those with limited time who want to maximize their chances of seeing the Big 5 and the Great Migration.
Depart Nairobi early morning (07:30). Stop at the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint. Arrive in Masai Mara for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive.
- Great Rift Valley Viewpoint photo stop
- First encounter with the Big Cats
- Sunset over the Savannah
A full day exploring the vast reserve. We drive towards the Mara River to look for hippos, crocodiles, and the migration.
- Tracking the Big 5
- Picnic lunch in the wild
- Mara River hippo pools
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the camp. Check out and begin the scenic drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon.
- Relaxed morning at camp
- Final views of the Rift Valley
- Souvenir shopping
Best Time: July to October for the Migration, but game viewing is excellent year-round.
Transport: The road to the Mara can be bumpy. We highly recommend upgrading to a 4×4 Land Cruiser for this specific route.
Clothing: Early morning game drives are chilly (10°C). Pack a warm fleece or windbreaker.
Save 5 hours of driving! You can opt to fly from Wilson Airport (Nairobi) directly to the Mara airstrip (45 mins). This gives you an extra afternoon game drive on Day 1.
2. The Flamingos & Big Cats Circuit
The perfect blend of the Great Rift Valley and the Savannah. This circuit breaks up the long drive to the Mara by stopping at Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its Rhino Sanctuary and birdlife. It guarantees Rhino sightings before heading to the Mara for the predators.
Depart Nairobi at 07:30. Short drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Check-in for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the Rhino Sanctuary.
- White & Black Rhino sightings
- Flamingos & Pelicans (Season dependent)
- Rothschild Giraffes
Breakfast at lodge, then depart for the Masai Mara (approx 5 hours). Arrive in time for lunch. Relax, then enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Mara.
- Driving through the Rift Valley floor
- First glimpse of the Mara plains
- Sunset game viewing
A full day spent in the Masai Mara reserve. We carry packed lunches to maximize time with the wildlife, tracking lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

- Lunch under an Acacia tree
Enjoy breakfast at your camp/lodge. Check out and embark on the return journey to Nairobi. Arrive in the afternoon for drop-off.
- Relaxed morning
- Scenic ascent of the escarpment
- Arrival in Nairobi ~3:00 PM
Rhino Guarantee: Lake Nakuru is a fenced sanctuary with a very high density of Black and White Rhinos. It is the best place in Kenya to see them.
Birdlife: While flamingos move between lakes, Nakuru hosts over 400 bird species.
Pace: This is less tiring than Circuit 1 because the drive is split into two manageable legs.
Unlike the vast Mara, Nakuru is smaller and features a unique acacia forest and lake ecosystem. It offers diverse photography opportunities and is home to the rare Rothschild Giraffe.
3. The Kilimanjaro & Red Elephants Circuit
A photographer’s dream. This fast-paced circuit contrasts the lush swamps and elephant herds of Amboseli (with Mt. Kilimanjaro backdrops) against the rugged, semi-arid beauty of Tsavo East, famous for its ‘Red Elephants’ and the Yatta Plateau.
Depart Nairobi southwards towards Mt. Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Amboseli National Park in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive in search of large elephant herds.
- Views of Mt. Kilimanjaro (weather permitting)
- Massive Elephant Tuskers
- Observation Hill sunset
Morning game drive in Amboseli. Depart for Tsavo East (approx 3.5 hrs). You’ll notice the dramatic change in landscape from green swamps to red semi-arid soil.
- Final views of Kili
- Shetani Lava Flow views on route
- Arrival in the "Theatre of the Wild"
Full day exploration of Tsavo East. We visit the Galana River where hippos and crocs congregate, and the Aruba Dam, a drinking spot for lions and buffalo.
- Dust-bathing Red Elephants
- Lugard Falls on Galana River
- Yatta Plateau (World's longest lava flow)
Early morning game drive to catch the sunrise over the vast plains. Breakfast at lodge, then drive back to Nairobi along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
- Sunrise over the Savannah
- Last chance for predator sightings
- Scenic drive through Ukambani hills
Photography: Amboseli is best in the early morning when Kilimanjaro is usually clear of clouds. Tsavo offers amazing golden light on the red soil.
Dust: Tsavo is dusty due to the red soil. Carry a scarf or bandana to cover your face during drives, and protect your camera gear.
The elephants in Tsavo aren’t actually red species. They dust-bathe in the iron-rich laterite soil of the park to protect their skin from sun and insects, giving them a distinct glowing red color.
4. The Rift Valley Classic Circuit
A perfectly balanced 5-day adventure. This route breaks the journey into manageable legs, allowing you to experience the birdlife of Lake Nakuru, a walking safari among giraffes at Lake Naivasha, and the predator action of the Masai Mara.
Depart Nairobi in the morning (07:30). Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Afternoon game drive visiting the Rhino Sanctuary and lake shore.
- Rift Valley Escarpment Views
- White & Black Rhinos
- Lake Nakuru birdlife
Short drive to Lake Naivasha. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to see hippos and stop at Crescent Island for a guided walking safari among zebras and giraffes.

- Drop off at Airport/Hotel
Crescent Island: The walking safari here is flat and easy. It’s one of the few places you can walk safely near Zebras and Giraffes as there are no predators on the island.
Boat Ride: The boat ride on Lake Naivasha takes about 1 hour and gets you very close to Hippo pods.
Naivasha is a freshwater lake (unlike the alkaline Nakuru), attracting different bird species and large Hippo populations. It breaks the journey to the Mara perfectly.
5. The Hemingway Circuit (South & West)
Named after the famous author who loved these landscapes, this circuit connects Kenya’s two most iconic parks: Amboseli and Masai Mara. By linking the South (Kilimanjaro) with the West (Mara) via the Rift Valley lakes, you get the absolute best wildlife viewing opportunities in one trip.

Day 3 Drive: The drive from Amboseli to Naivasha is long (approx 6 hours) as you skirt around Nairobi. We recommend an early start (7:00 AM) to arrive in Naivasha for a relaxing afternoon by the lake.
Landscape Variety: This trip offers the best contrast: Dust/Swamps in Amboseli, Freshwater Lake/Greenery in Naivasha, and Rolling Plains in the Mara.
Amboseli sits at the foot of the mountain. While the peak is in Tanzania, the best views are from Kenya. Mornings are your best bet before the cloud cover builds up around midday.
6. The Northern Frontier & Rhinos Circuit

This is the ‘Greatest Hits’ album of Kenya. It skips the more niche northern parks to focus purely on the most famous, high-density wildlife areas.
